The law is pathetic. It is slow to change and adjust for real world issues.
No, waste of money, stick to only having sex with one person at a time! much easier and cheaper for us all….
When I had my twins, I put my now ex husbands name on the birth certificates without a paterity test. Later on during our divorce, the court ordered one.
This is where loose morals and degraded integrity has brought us. If a man is not going to take responsibility for his own children of his own fruition – then I think a law should be in order.
This is how far down the hole our society has come. Men and women are equally at fault.
It still takes two!
I don’t know that that is the answer, I do know that it is becoming a huge problem however.. men who are not the paternal fathers should not have to pay child support if a woman lied and he believed her at the time. It is like a crime of passion.. You can kill someone and get a milder sentence because you were in love and acting on that emotion, yet you can sign 18 years of your life away in the throws of love only to find out later that you are NOT the father, yet you will still be held financially responsible for that child? I don’t think that is correct or even remotely fair.. It is is foolish and infuriating and one more way to unclug the judicial system. .but a very bad way.
I think a paternity test should be done if the paternity is questioned and when. and I feel that once paternity is established and that the name on the birth certificate no longer matches the baby, that guy is off the hook! End of story, why should some guy be held responsible for someone elses child and a lying girl?
Ugh..
What state is that in? Never heard of this one. I would say un married mothers giving birth, Yes maybe the state should make you do that. It would save a lot of money in legal fees, Look at how much a state spends(your tax money on courts, to prove who the father is many yrs later. I think I agree unwed mothers, have to have DNA on the baby before a fathers name goes on the birth certificate.
if you had a few extra men, I dont blame Bill.
I think a paternity test should be mandatory. Do away w/ affidavits of paternity. These are to easy to guilt guys into signing and too easy to forge. DNA doesn’t lie.
It might be a good idea.
Many states have brought in laws putting in a statute of limitations on paternity testing. What that means is that if a wife has an affair, gets pregnant, doesn’t tell her husband and he acts as a father for 5-6 years, and they then divorce, at which point he finds out the child is not his … he’s still financially responsible. There’s at least one case I’ve read of where the man lost all physical access to the kids (because he’s not the father) but still has to pay support. The law really does view men as ATMs … apparently the kids can’t be deprived of their non-father’s cash, but its no issue to cut off anything else he might have provided in their lives.
When your kids were born, did anyone tell you you had a limited window to test paternity? And of course there’s pressure _not_ to. If the laws are going to have statutes of limitations, they should test up front automatically.
