I have found the woman I believe to be my half sister. We are considering taking a DNA test to see--however, the father we share is not available. Is blood better than buccal for the test? Are we likely to get false indicators? How do I know the company is reputable?

Blood or buccal either way, you are going to get the same results. You also do not have to have the father available for testing to find out if you share the same DNA with this other woman. It just is not necessary. If you are concerned about the reputation of the company then I would suggest checking with the Better Business Bureau (if in the USA), or a local hospital would be able to give you information on how to find the reputability of a particular company.
