One does not have to go any where in person to take a test. The kit comes to you in the mail. One swabs the inside of the mouth and sends it back. For about $100 you could gift the kit to your dad.

The regular price for the 12 marker Y DNA test is $150, but if you call and volunteer for the Genographic Project they might be able to give you a $50 discount:

However, you are going to have to buy two kits, one for your dad and one for yourself.

"We look nothing alike, have nothing in common, completely different personalities and body types."
That is, of course, entirely possible while being related.

Aside from the whole "we look nothing alike" thing (and our taste in music), you've pretty much just described me and my dad.

"Can I just go to his house when he is out and get some hairs off his bed?"
Shed hairs are generally useless for DNA testing, as you need the living cells in the follicle.

You'd have better luck with a comb, or, you know, just asking him.
