How much does a dna paternity test cost?
i have to get a paternity test done on my child because my girlfriend recently broke the news that i might not be the dad... so i want to avoid child support and any other thing that might be coming my way because of this.

A basic test can be done using a kit for $150. If you’re the father, set up a voluntary order. If you’re not, just let her come after you. She will have to pay for the court approved test when it comes back negative.

Go to Dads House in Yahoo Groups. There’s a free manual there that will teach you all you need to know, and association with others involved in similar cases.

I just had a friend go thru this same sittuation. A friend of mines son was in a bad relationship and his girl friend had "their" baby….. When the baby was born he looked nothing like him and the girl started acting like a witch. So he started thinking something was up…. He and his mom got online and ordered a DNA test from an online pharmacy. That test was $500 but it was not court ordered and he did the test without the girlfriend knowing. So when he showed the girlfriend and her family the report sent back to him (all done in 2 wks.) Her and her family freaked out of course. So he went with them to 2 docs and had 2 more test ran which cost $500-$600 and took 4-5 days to get the results back. In his case it was worth it bc the child wasn’t his but it was also really hard on him to give up a child that he originally thought was his! Good Luck!
I´ve seen home kits as low as $89 online at http://www.paternity-answers.com/ . These home kits are not designed for child support purposes, but simply for parents that want to know. It is important to keep in mind that the results of these home kits will NOT be admissible in court. If you and your girlfriend can agree to a home kit, go for it. If the results show that you are not the dad, and she later decides to sue you for child support anyway, you will have to pay for a second test that will be admissible in court… this will involve going to a clinic with the child´s birth certificate and ID to prove that the correct child and parents are being tested. These tend to be much more costly (I saw them starting at $500).
Best of luck to you.
