A friend of mine had a baby, and her husband thinks she cheated on him and the baby isn't his, so to prove him wrong, she had a paternity test done, and it said he wasn't the father. So he is divorcing her, but she swears that the baby is his and she didn't cheat on him. Is this likely to happen? How often does that happen?

Any time a result comes out differently than expected, the test should be redone, even at another lab. Labs make mistakes. They mislabel stuff, they enter the wrong info into the computer. There is a whole host of things that can go wrong. In fact, even the national FBI lab has been under investigation 2 or 3 times because of screwups and really bad screwups. People are convicted of crimes based on their results!
There are countless cases of women getting mastectomies only to find out that they didn’t have cancer (of any kind) in the first place. In addition, now that chimeras have come to light, it is POSSIBLE for a man to have sperm that is a different DNA from himself.
At the very least, my suggestion is for that friend to contact the lab, talk to the head honcho and insist that they have made an error. They will usually bend over backwards to figure it out, even asking for an additional swab from the guy.
Not very often at all! But… usually when they give the test results, it will have a % by the answer… it is usually 99.9% right. tell her to check that and see what the percentage is.

A DNA test is 100% I would get the results and show him then I would split up and get child support from him with the results from the test.
