If a father in OH terminates parental rights is he still responsible for child support?
Child is not born yet. Paternity is not being questioned but DNA would match if need be to have child tested. Father does not want to be a father and is going to terminate parental rights immediately after birth. Can the mother still get child support from the father in the state of OH? Father says he can sign a way all responsibility to this mother and child.

I believe father is full of excrement.
FATHER does not terminate rights. That is not his option. His responsibility to the child is up to the COURT to determine. Courts are not real fond of fathers who believe that if they "give up rights" then, mom is stuck and father cannot be ordered to pay support. Mom needs to stop letting dad play head games with her, and just wait until baby is born. Once the child is born, mom files for support order from the court. They also can order the paternity test if he disputes it.
It would be different if mom later is married, and stepfather is willing to adopt the child (meaning, he accepts both fatherhood and responsibility to support). When that happens, bio dad can voluntarily relinquish his rights.
The only issue is that dad may think he does not want to be a father now.. but if he does pay support when ordered by the court, he can also change his mind, and petition the court for visitation or partial custody.
no
Yes he can still be held accountable for child support. My cousin is a meat head and doesnt want anything to do with his kid, signed away his rights and he still has to pay support. Thats what they get!
no from my experience with friends, he is not
Just to set the record straight, he can sign away his parental rights on his own accord. That is his CHOICE. What is NOT his choice is the legal responsibilties of child support and medical coverage until emancipation of the child. The only way he will not have to pay child support and medical coverage is if MOM signs off on an agreement where SHE decides not to have him pay. I hope this helps you and you can find it useful
No, he cannot. I also live in Ohio. He can waive his right to visitation, but not child support. The only way he is going to get out of paying child support is #1 the mother never contacts the child support office and asks for it #2 if the mother doesn’t want his support then the mother can never get public assistance (foodstamps, medicaid, etc.), if she does get public assistance they will make her pursue child support. or #3 There is another man that the mother is going to marry, and this man will adopt the child. You have to be married for a min. of 1 year before they will allow an adoption like this. Otherwise there is no way for him to sign away his child support, there has to be someone to sign it over to, and the mother does not count. Now if the mother doesn’t want it, all she has to do is not ask for it & keep off public assistance, but she could always change her mind later down the road and go get it, if there’s no adoption.
