Is there anyway to do a maternity test on cats?
I had this cat show up here in February or March, Tiger. She got pregnant and had her babies sometime over Memorial Day weekend. Then in mid June this random kitten showed up, who is now named Deloris. She was really small, so she couldn't have traveled too far to get here.
Now that she's grown, Deloris is built just like Tiger and she even looks like Tiger and has the same tendencies. Just out of curiosity, I'd be cool to know. The only reason that I'm even slightly doubtful Deloris is Tiger's kitten is because Tiger had another kitten that was a lot smaller. But there was a different kitten of Tiger's (that unfortunately got hit about a week before Deloris showed up) and it seemed like his size would have been right with Deloris's.
So is there anyway to get maternity testing on cats?

Here’s a link to a site that does feline paternity testing:
http://www.catgenes.org/dna-tests.html
good luck!
p.s. Indoor cats are happier, safer, healthier and much better companions. And, you won’t have so many worries!
You mean DNA tests, no. Besides, it’d be very expensive if it was offered.
i know they do dna tests with dogs, give a call to the vet and see if they offer dna tests for cats. if they don’t i am sure they will in the future!
Yes, you can get DNA testing done fairly inexpensively… $39 per animal. http://Catgenes.org is the lab that does all my testing & you can ask them to confirm parentage when you submit the samples. The results will also include a disease profile & colors carried… thy have not updated their website lately, but you get ~18 or 19 tests run for that $39.
It *is* possible for a cat to be pregnant by multiple males & carry multiple litters. She could have gotten bred at the beginning of her cycle & again at the tail end. This situation is rare, but I have had a cat partially abort a litter & deliver several healthy kittens weeks later.
