What can be done for fathers who are charged with felony conviction for child support?
The mother is not cooperative, nor does she allow vistiatation right to the father. He signed the birth certificate under false pretenses (she later told him, he was a dam fool...& the child is not even his) Over the years he has served time and has a felony conviction for non-criminal child support. Right now it's hard to get a job, because of the felony. He needs help with an attorney advice and what can we do to solve the problem. We know a paternity test is needed, but the state won't grant him one. It must be paid out of pocket. Is there someone with really strong legal advice or know of a attorney who will take his case "pro bono" in Missouri. Serious legal advice needed. And how can he get the state to pay for a paternity test. Thank you all very much.

Another case of a few dollars getting in the way of someone’s life. Just go pay for the darn paternity test. If it shows he is not the father, his criminal problems will most likely go away. And he should have done it a long time ago. States create these simple ways for unmarried parents to admit paternity, but it is way more difficult to undo the admission when you realize that you’re not the father. The Paternity test is about the only way to do it. If the father did not sign an admission, the state would pay for the test and he would have to reimburse them if he is actually the father, the reverse of the situation you have.
Paternity tests cost somewhere between $500 and $700 dollars usually around here, and the $500 would be worth it since if he had paid for it previously he would not be a felon and would not have gone to jail and would probably have a good job now.
There is not really anything he can do….if he signed to birth certificate, he will have to pay out of pocket for the expense of the test….that is just the way it is.
go to http://www.deltabavo.net it is a father’s rights website they should be able to help…
The State will not pay for a paternity test – ever. Dish out the money and be done with it. If the child is not his, all the issues go away even though he was dumb enough to sign the birth certificate. If he is the father, he is responsible until the child turns 18 or older if they are a full time student.
This is called responsibility.
