What would cause a DNA test to be innaccurate?
I had a DNA test done to establish maternity for my son, the test came back that the man I had tested was not the father. Me and the man got a retest because we could not believe the results and sure enough the 2nd test said he was the father. I'm so confused. When I asked the facility they said the gel they used had expired. Shouldn't I get some of my money back? What would of happened if I hadn't gotten a retest?

The gel has nothing to do with the inaccuracy. Agarose has no expiration date.
It’s more likely that someone mislabeled the father’s tube. When you’re dealing with hundreds of test tubes, there’s a good chance that tubes will get mixed up. Look at athletes who get tested for drug use. If the sample comes up positive, they have to retest it again using the second sample just to verify that the first test is correct.
The company that tested your family’s DNA didn’t do a good job of making sure that a snafu didn’t happen. It should have done the test twice. Didn’t they do a swab twice for your DNA?
You should complain and get your money back since they screwed up. If they knew the agarose expired, then they should have told you that the agarose expired, and they should offer to retest your family again.
You mean paternity. Maternity refers to the mother.
I think you should get a refund for the first test
You should contact a lawyer, take them to small claims court to refund your test money for both their test and the retest you had performed.
If you hadn’t gotten a retest, obviously you would have been living in doubt. Mistakes unfortunately happen on a rare occassion and aren’t always caught – but as I said, it’s rare. Most DNA testing facilities are very reputable and would not make this kind of error.
Lame excuse for bad results. The only thing that would give a bad result is a bad lab or if someone mixed up the samples.
Are both laboratories AABB accredited?
