Unless you have a specific person who you are trying to find out if you are related to, the DNA test will not help you locate your ancestors.My suggestion for obtaining information with regards to where you can have it drawn is to contact your local health department or your local lab where blood is normally drawn. You don’t need a blood test though, a DNA test can be performed with a swab from the inside of your mouth. The cost will vary and can go as high as $600.

~TO ambercrobie: the "blood drawer" doesn’t know that kind of info. I am a "phlebotomist" and have not drawn for that ever in my 12 years of doing this. That is a specialty test.

The most expensive test is the matrilineal (tracing back through the female line, hopefully some 20,000 or more years) to what is known as your Clan Mother. Helena being the most common in the UK.

My husband gave me my test as a 65th birthday present – I’m hoping that one day I will find another Clan Mother descendant to match mine who has been called "Una" – not one of the 7 daughters unfortunately.
